These guys are great! I run a plumbing company but don’t do drains. I often sub contract them to service my customers sewer lines. They don’t only make me happy, but they keep my customers happy and that’s what matters to me most. Thanks guys!

Amazing experience! They are knowledgeable, kind, courteous and very thorough. Our clogged kitchen pipe was a bit of a challenge but they kept going and did everything they could to get it unclogged and they did it! They were very upfront with what caused the clog, gave us video recording of our pipes so we can see exactly what was done, double checked to make sure the pipes were clean and free of clogs and gave us steps on how to maintain the pipes moving forward. Highly recommend!!

Alex was very good to work with. They were professional and punctual, working around my schedule. They were able to show me exactly before and after, even showing footage inside my pipes, which I have never seen before. I would recommend them.

What the camera shows, and what happens next

A slow drain or a backup is a symptom, and the same symptom can come from very different problems. For the part of the line the camera can reach, the footage shows what is wrong, where it is, and how bad it looks, before you pay for cleaning or digging. Your footage may show one of these findings or a mix.

What the footage showsUsual next step
Grease or soap buildup. A coating on the pipe wall that narrows the opening.Usual next stepDrain Cleaning or Hydro Jetting, then a schedule through Sewer Cleaning & Maintenance if it keeps returning.
Roots. Hair-like strands or a dense mass, usually at a joint or crack.Usual next stepJetting clears them, but roots regrow, so the question is whether the pipe is open at the joint. If it is, repair or replacement addresses the cause.
Scale or rust. A rough, flaky surface in older metal pipe that slowly cuts flow.Usual next stepDescaling by jetting where the pipe wall allows it; replacement when the wall is too far gone.
Offset or separated joint. Two pipe sections that no longer line up, which catches debris.Usual next stepSpot repair or replacement through Sewer Repair & Replacement. Cleaning brings short-term relief only.
Low spot (belly). A sag where water and waste sit.Usual next stepDepends on how deep and long it is. A mild one may be managed with scheduled cleaning; a severe one needs repair or replacement.
Crack or break. A visible split or gap in the pipe wall.Usual next stepRepair or replacement. Some cracks may qualify for lining.
Collapsed section. Pipe that has caved in or flattened, often where the camera stops.Usual next stepReplacement. Lining generally does not work through a collapsed section, so the usual path is excavation. In some cases pipe bursting may fit.
No visible problem found. No visible problem was found in the inspected portion.Usual next stepLook elsewhere for the cause, or inspect again if the problem returns. You avoid paying for work the footage does not support.

If the footage shows damage, you do not have to start over with another contractor. Our crew can quote the repair and do the work: digging to the pipe, replacing it, and pouring and finishing the concrete afterward. See Sewer Repair & Replacement. For a damaged line that may qualify for lining or pipe bursting, we arrange a licensed partner after our inspection. See Trenchless Sewer Repair.

The limits. A camera sees only the pipe it can reach, and it does not guarantee that every concealed defect will be seen. A full blockage or a collapsed section can stop it. If a blockage stops the camera, we can clear the line first with a cable or hydro jetting, with your approval, and run the camera again. Either way, we tell you where it stopped and why, so you know what was and was not checked. The footage does not show the soil around the pipe, so the final dig plan depends on what we find when the ground is opened.

How a camera inspection works, and what you get

  1. Call or text with the property address, what is happening, and where your cleanout is, if you know. Past cleanings or footage from another company help. If you are buying, add your closing date and the end of your inspection period.
  2. You approve a written price for the inspection before the camera goes in.
  3. We feed the camera through a cleanout or another accessible opening and watch the footage as it runs. Where locating is possible, we mark the identified problem above ground with the pipe locator.
  4. We show you the footage, explain it, and lay out your options: cleaning, repair, replacement, or a trenchless method.
  5. Any work beyond the inspection gets its own written price. Nothing starts until you approve it.

What you get: the footage explained, the problem marked above ground where locating is possible, and clear options. A copy of the recording is available for an additional fee, quoted before the inspection. Customers use a copy to compare quotes, send to a landlord, HOA, or real estate agent, or keep as a baseline. If you are booking mainly for the recording, tell us when you call.

What it costs

The inspection. Pricing is job-based. The main drivers are the length of the line, how easy it is to get the camera in (a cleanout, or none), and whether the line has to be cleaned before the camera can pass. Call or text 385-888-7459 for the price on your line, or read our guide to what a sewer camera inspection costs.

Additional work is priced separately. If the footage points to cleaning, repair, or replacement, that work gets its own written price. For digging, depth, surface (soil or concrete), and restoration also affect the price.

Hours. We are open 24/7. After-hours calls carry an emergency charge of 15% to 35%, shown as a separate line item.

Quick Answers About Camera Inspection

What is a drain and sewer camera inspection?

A drain and sewer camera inspection is a video look inside a pipe before any repair is proposed. Mountain West's self-leveling camera reaches up to 200 feet of line from the access point, and where locating is possible, a pipe locator marks the problem above ground. We serve homes and businesses in Davis, Weber, and Salt Lake counties.

Do I get to see the footage?

Yes. In a Mountain West camera inspection, we show you the footage from inside your pipe and explain what it shows. A copy of the recording is available for an additional fee, quoted before the inspection, so tell us when you book if you want one to share with a plumber, landlord, or agent.

How much does a camera inspection cost?

A camera inspection is priced by the job, based on line length, access, and whether the line must be cleaned first. Call or text 385-888-7459 for the price on your line. You approve a written price before the camera goes in. Any repair is priced separately, and after-hours calls carry a 15% to 35% emergency charge shown as its own line.
