Broken drain line diagnosis in Northern Utah for homes and businesses where cleaning has not held. Our 200-foot self-leveling camera looks inside the line for cracks, collapses, and separated joints, and a pipe locator can mark the spot above ground. The same crew can quote the repair. Call or text 385-888-7459.
A clog blocks flow inside a pipe. A broken drain line has damage to the pipe itself: a crack, a joint that has pulled apart, or a section that has caved in. Sometimes both happen together. Damage can catch debris or let roots in, so backups can return after cleaning. The camera is how we tell what you have.
Signs the pipe itself may be damaged:
The drain clogs again within days or weeks of a cleaning.
Gurgling or sewer odors come back after each cleaning.
The ground along the line is wet, soft, or sinking, or you smell sewage outside.
Cleaning tools keep stopping at the same spot.
The trouble began after digging, heavy equipment, or ground movement near the line.
Another company said the line needs repair, and you want to see the damage yourself.
These signs point toward damage but do not prove it. The footage shows what is there, for the part of the line the camera can reach.
These guys are great! I run a plumbing company but don’t do drains. I often sub contract them to service my customers sewer lines. They don’t only make me happy, but they keep my customers happy and that’s what matters to me most. Thanks guys!

Amazing experience! They are knowledgeable, kind, courteous and very thorough. Our clogged kitchen pipe was a bit of a challenge but they kept going and did everything they could to get it unclogged and they did it! They were very upfront with what caused the clog, gave us video recording of our pipes so we can see exactly what was done, double checked to make sure the pipes were clean and free of clogs and gave us steps on how to maintain the pipes moving forward. Highly recommend!!

Damage is hard to see from above ground, which is why we run the camera before anyone digs. Here is what structural damage looks like on the footage and where each type usually leads.
What the footage shows
Usual next step
Crack. A split in the pipe wall, from a fine line to an open gap.
Usual next stepA fine crack may be a candidate for a spot repair or, if the pipe qualifies, lining. A crack that is spreading, or pipe that has broken apart, usually means replacing that section.
Offset joint. Two pipe sections that no longer line up.
Usual next stepThe size of the step decides it. A small one that is not catching waste may only need watching. A large one usually means replacing the section.
Separated joint. A gap where two sections have pulled apart.
Usual next stepSoil and roots can get in, and wastewater can leak out into the ground. The joint or section is repaired.
Collapse. Pipe that has caved in or been crushed.
Usual next stepThe camera often cannot pass it, so the point where it stops matters. The locator marks that spot on the surface where locating is possible, and the dig plan starts there. Lining generally does not work through a collapse, so the usual path is excavation.
Roots through an opening. Roots growing in at a joint or crack.
Usual next stepRoots show where the pipe is open. Cutting them back clears the line, but the opening remains until the pipe is repaired.
If the footage shows damage, you do not have to start over with another contractor. Our crew can quote the repair and do the work, including digging to the marked spot, replacing the pipe, and pouring and finishing the concrete afterward.
The limits. The camera shows the inside of the pipe it can reach. A full blockage or a collapsed section can stop it, and when that happens we tell you where it stopped and why. The footage does not show the soil around the pipe, so the final dig plan is set when the ground is opened.
How the diagnosis works, and what you get
Call or text. Tell us which line you suspect, the symptoms, what has been tried, and where your cleanout is, if you know. Footage or a report from another company helps.
You approve a written price for the diagnosis before the camera goes in.
We feed the camera through a cleanout or another accessible opening and watch the footage as it runs. Where locating is possible, we mark any damage above ground with the pipe locator.
We show you the footage, explain it, and lay out your options.
Any repair gets its own written price. Nothing starts until you approve it.
What you get: the footage explained, any damage marked above ground where locating is possible, and a recommendation tied to what the camera showed. A copy of the recording is available for an additional fee, quoted before the inspection. It is worth having when you compare repair quotes, so tell us when you call if you want one.
What it costs
The diagnosis. Pricing is job-based. The main drivers are how much of the line needs to be inspected, how easy it is to get the camera in, and whether the line must be cleared before the camera can pass. Clearing is priced separately and needs your approval. Call or text 385-888-7459 for the price on your line, or read our guide to what a sewer camera inspection costs.
The repair. It gets its own written price. For digging, depth, surface (soil or concrete), and restoration also affect the price.
Hours. We are open 24/7. After-hours calls carry an emergency charge of 15% to 35%, shown as a separate line item.

Broken drain line diagnosis is a camera inspection that shows whether a drain pipe is cracked, collapsed, or separated, whether or not it is also clogged. Mountain West feeds a 200-foot self-leveling camera through the line and, where locating is possible, marks the damage above ground with a pipe locator. We serve homes and businesses in Davis, Weber, and Salt Lake counties.
How do I know if my drain line is broken or just clogged?
A drain that clogs again within days or weeks of cleaning, with gurgling, odors, or wet or sunken ground near the line, points toward damage to the pipe and not only a clog. A camera inspection helps identify whether the problem is a blockage, pipe damage, or both. Mountain West inspects the line and shows you the footage before you pay for a repair.
What happens if the camera shows my drain line is broken?
You see the footage, and the damage is marked above ground where locating is possible. We then lay out your options: a spot repair, replacing a longer run, or a trenchless method if the pipe qualifies. The same Mountain West crew can quote and do the dig repair. Any repair gets its own written price, and nothing starts until you approve it.
How much does broken drain line diagnosis cost?
Broken drain line diagnosis is priced by the job, based on how much line must be inspected, how easy it is to reach, and whether it must be cleared first. Call or text 385-888-7459 for the price on your line. You approve a written price before the camera goes in, and any repair is priced separately.
